Weekly Snaps
16 May 2025
Photography has always played an important role on Britannia. While she was in service, there was always a 'Yottie' appointed, nicknamed 'Snaps', to take photographs of life aboard the Royal Yacht.
In keeping with this tradition, we now have our own Photographer in Residence, Ruth McQuiggan, who has been capturing our very own Weekly 'Snaps' - a collection of snapshots of life around the ship today.

We welcomed the former Royal Yachtsmen, fondly known as Yotties, back aboard Britannia this week for their Annual Working Party. Visitors delighted in meeting them and took the opportunity to snap a memorable photo.

Visitors were thrilled to hear the interesting stories about life on the Royal Yacht, straight from the Yotties themselves!

On the Verandah Deck, all aboard enjoyed the sunshine and the opportunity to gain an insight into life at sea.

The Yotties aboard this week served across the decades of Britannia's service, right up to the ship's decommissioning in 1997.

Sudharsan, Waiter, serving delectable sweet and savoury treats to guests in the busy Royal Deck Tearoom.

Executive Pastry Chef, Stephen, Kitchen Porter, Hemant, and Junior Sous Chef, Bob, making bread rolls in the onboard Galley.

Britannia platters, featuring a choice of soup and sandwich, and twice cooked smoked paprika potato wedges, being prepared in the Galley for hungry visitors.

Taking over three years to build, Nicolas handmade this beautiful replica of Britannia, which he sailed in the Port of Leith alongside the Yacht.

The exquisite Britannia model was sailed throughout the week, a lovely added extra sight for our visitors as well as for our own staff.

Yotties serving up their daily ration of rum at 4pm. Until the tradition came to an end in 1970, Sailors were given a daily ration of rum.

Available to purchase in the Shop, our exclusive Pusser's Rum enamelled tin mug is the perfect addition to your kitchen.

Modelled by our Yotties, the Shop's range of Britannia caps and sun hats are a stylish option for a sunny day.
